Professional Information

Dr. Wagle Shukla is an Assistant Professor in Department of Neurology at University of Florida. She has an extensive clinical experience with double training in Neurology. She has undergone three years of Internal Medicine and 3 years of Neurology training in India, subsequently completed her second Neurology Residency from Little Rock, Arkansas. She did her movement disorders fellowship with special training in clinical electrophysiology from University of Toronto, Canada, a world renowned center for movement disorders. During her fellowship, she participated in several  research projects focusing on basic electrophysiology of motor cortex and understanding the modulatory role of deep brain stimulation in Parkinson’s Disease.  She has also made several presentations at international podiums and published her work in prestigious journals. She has received a special Dr Jim Sharpe award for outstanding paper presentation and a travel fellowship award to American Neurological Association meeting.

Her goal of practice is to provide highest level of quality care to her patients and she is also committed to pursue her research interests in movement disorders.  Currently she is working on projects elucidating the underlying mechanisms of action for deep brain stimulation in DYT1 dystonia and the use of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation as a treatment modality for symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, depression associated with Parkinson’s disease and apathy as a consequence of Deep Brain Stimulation therapy in Parkinson’s Disease.  In addition she is a co-investigator on clinical trials focusing on improved therapies for motor fluctuations in Parkinson’s Disease.

Research Interests

Her other area of expertise is  studying clinical electrophysiology of tremors, dystonia, myoclonus and psychogenic movement disorders. She is experienced and proficient in administration of Botulinum toxin for dystonia and spasticity.
