Dr. Leonardo (Leo) Almeida is originally from Brazil, where received his M.D. degree from the Universidade Federal da Bahia in 2008. He completed his Neurology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2014, followed by a two-year fellowship in Movement Disorders at University of Florida at Gainesville from 2014-2016. He is currently an Assistant Professor at University of Florida as a Neurohospitalist and an outpatient Movement Disorders specialist. His areas of interest include deep brain stimulation, dystonia, tremors and Parkinson’s disease.
During his fellowship he was awarded a grant from the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation to investigate novel deep brain stimulation parameters in dystonia patients.
