Charitable gifts tax rules for 2015
With the year-end upon us, it is important to note the tax rules governing the timing of charitable gifts for calendar year 2015. Gifts qualifying as calendar year 2015 gifts under IRS rules must be delivered to the Gift Processing Department for processing by 12:00 NOON on January 8, 2016. All gifts delivered must be accompanied by an Asset Transmittal (UFF-B). All correspondence from the donor, including the envelope, must be included. To be eligible for a deduction in the calendar year 2015, we must RECEIVE, as determined by tax law, the gift on or before December 31, 2015. For cash and checks, the IRS Mailbox Rule will apply, meaning the gift date will be the postmark date on the envelope. Please note saving the envelope, beginning now, is most important as it documents the gift date in most cases. Please review the 2015 Year-end Memo to ensure gifts are handled accordingly. Please contact Susan Goffman at with questions.

Issues with W-4 and Direct Deposit Changes
We have been experiencing delays in the payroll processing on payroll closing days, due to changes made to W-4 information and direct deposit information in My Self Service.
Any update in setup information while we are closing payroll can result in the requirement for additional processes to be run to “record” these changes in order for the paycheck to be processed.  There is also a risk that changes of this type may cause errors or delays in the processing of payroll for all of UF.
These changes may be made by employees on any other days, except the days that we close payroll.
