Spring 2020 Neuromedicine Buddy Program Now Recruiting!

The Interdisciplinary and Clinical Academic Program (ICAP) is seeking the help of Physicians to recruit for the Spring 2020 Neuromedicine Buddy Program. Currently the program is in its 6th semester with two sections, Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis. The Neuromedicine Buddy Program is a one credit course that is offered in both spring and fall semesters. Over a four month time period, a patient is paired with two students to partake in four different interactions. The course is designed to facilitate the development of psychosocial skills and interpersonal awareness, two skills that are becoming more valuable as healthcare systems shift more toward patient-centered care. Students learn core concepts related to empathy, effective communication, mutual support, and other such topics while patients benefit from engaging with a pre-health student and sharing their experiences with their diagnosis. Mentioning the program to patients and caregivers during visits would greatly benefit our recruitment efforts. Patients who are interested or are looking to apply should email NICAP@health.ufl.edu  to receive an application. The deadline to apply for the Spring 2020 semester will be December 16th, 2019.
