We’re thrilled to share the news of the B.J. & Eve Wilder Therapeutic Garden, the soon to be newest addition to the Wilmot Botanical Gardens at the University of Florida.
Designed with accessibility and healing in mind, this beautiful new space will serve as a living classroom and a place of restoration — where patients, caregivers, and the community can connect with nature to support emotional and physical well-being.
The Wilder Garden will expand our therapeutic horticulture programs, offering structured gardening activities that promote relaxation, gentle movement, and a renewed sense of purpose. From its accessible raised planters to sensory-friendly design elements and a historic cast-iron well pump feature, every detail has been crafted to foster calm, connection, and growth.
As part of the Wilmot mission to integrate nature into healthcare, this garden represents another step forward in using green spaces as tools for wellness, education, and hope.
🌸 We are grateful for the support we have received for this project from several sources including the BJ and Eve Wilder Family Foundation (Ms. Karen Scott), Drs. Nancy and William Mendenhall, Mr. Ken Reed and the Sunrise Rotary Club of Gainesville. When completed this project will represent the ninth specialty garden in the Wilmot Botanical Gardens.
