About World Stroke Day

An event for World Stroke Day will take place in the UF Neuromedicine Lobby on October 29th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. World Stroke Day is an annual event to raise awareness about stroke signs, prevention, and the importance of immediate medical attention.  

  • Date: October 29th
  • Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Location: HVNM Lobby
  • Awareness: The day highlights the importance of recognizing stroke symptoms and taking immediate action. 
  • Symptoms: To remember the signs, use the FAST acronym:
    • Face drooping 
    • Arm weakness 
    • Speech difficulty 
    • Time to call 911 
  • Prevention: Many strokes can be prevented by managing risk factors such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar, as well as adopting a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a good diet. 
  • Action: If you or someone else shows signs of a stroke, call 911 immediately, even if the symptoms disappear.
