What is Brain Awareness Week?
Brain Awareness Week is a global campaign to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science. Every March, partners host imaginative activities in their communities that share the wonders of the brain, and the impact brain science has on our everyday lives. At the McKnight Brain Institute, Brain Awareness Week is facilitated by UF graduate and undergraduate students who belong to the North Central Florida Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. Throughout the week, chapter members visit public and private schools leading interactive games and hands-on demonstrations.
Coordinated by the Dana Foundation, a private philanthropic organization that supports brain research, Brain Awareness Week is celebrated in March by more than 5,600 partners in 120 countries. The goal of Brain Awareness Week is to raise public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research.

We’re excited to invite your students to celebrate Brain Awareness Week with us at the University of Florida! We’re graduate students in UF’s Neuroscience Department and the co-chairs for Brain Awareness Week (BAW), a national campaign led by the Dana Foundation to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science! In recent years, students from UF, as part of our chapter, have volunteered their time to educate Alachua County students about the brain and neuroscience topics. This year, we’re thrilled to expand last year’s homeschool-focused event by hosting a FREE hands-on, brain-filled day just for homeschooled students at the McKnight Brain Institute.
