The epilepsy service at the University of Florida serves patients from north central Florida, across the whole state of Florida, and from other regions of the southern United States. A recently established International Office will specifically coordinate visits for a growing number of international patients. The primary aim of the physicians and affiliated staff of the Epilepsy Division is the highest quality and compassionate clinical care. The Division has grown significantly in provider numbers and technical capacity in recent years, and our move to the new UF Health Neuromedicine hospital provides an exceptionally comfortable patient experience. Yet the central tenet of our professional activity remains a direct, personal and empathetic contact with the patients who entrust us with their care.
New patients are normally seen initially in our outpatient clinic and most patients continue to follow in clinic at regular intervals. A large proportion of our patients are complex referrals from community neurologists who need inpatient observation in our Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. Most patients will be investigated with EEG in our outpatient lab; admitted patients are observed with long-term continuous video-EEG monitoring. Our long-established epilepsy surgery program is a multidisciplinary approach to patients who need a surgical therapy.
The Division also has for several decades provided outpatient services to the Tacachale Developmental Disability Center.
