About the program

The University of Florida Department of Neurology and the 1Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) offer a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry, accredited by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS). This fellowship includes extensive clinical training in the diagnosis and treatment of Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatric disorders, while offering opportunities for clinical, translational, and basic science research, as well as access to advanced neuroimaging and neurorehabilitation resources.

The program is designed to offer comprehensive, state-of-the-art clinical and research training, preparing fellows for a successful career in academic medicine and leading to sub-specialty board certification in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry.

Formal didactic training is an integral part of the fellowship and includes courses in neuroepidemiology, structural and functional neuroimaging, neuropsychological testing, and evidene based medicine. Additionally, there are numerous research opportunities tailored to the fellow’s individual interests. Fellows can engage in a variety of studies, including, but not limited to:

  • Neurobehavioral manifestations of neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Implementation science in the management of dementia syndromes.
  • Barriers to healthcare access in populations with neurodegenerative disorders
  • Palliative care and end-of-life considerations in neurodegenerative diseases
  • MRI and PET imaging studies focused on brain function, diffusion/perfusion, and amyloid imaging.
  • EEG or Magnetoencephalography (MEG) for non-invasive assessments.
  • Investigating neuroplasticity and neurorehabilitation strategies.

Fellows will train at the UF Health Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases, an innovative and interdisciplinary clinical-research center located on the University of Florida campus. The institute is a state-of-the-art, free-standing facility designed to accommodate the growing demand for specialized neurological care and research. Embracing a patient-centric model, the Norman Fixel Institute integrates clinical expertise with cutting-edge research, creating a unique environment for fellows to receive world-class training while directly contributing to groundbreaking work in neurological diseases.
