Medi-Gators/Medi-Futures Program Overview

The Medi-Gators and Medi-Futures programs are virtual shadowing programs. UF Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Medi-Gators Mentorship Program.

The virtual shadowing programs are designed to help students to (1) determine what career(s) interest them, and to (2) gain an appreciation for the breadth of professions required to make medicine work. This is done via efficient exposure to a broad variety of health careers in a short period of time, which could only happen via a virtual formal. It’s a great first step for most students. The program is freely available to all interested students at participating institutions (please see websites for more details) and a certificate is provided to those meeting the requirements detailed on the Medi-Gators website and the Medi-Futures website.

The Medi-Gators Mentorship Program is a structured mentorship program that connects 3-5 UF pre-health students with 2-3 UF professional students and 1 UF faculty mentor. Over the course of the program, groups meet monthly to discuss important topics in pursuit of their career of interest, while also planning an executing a small project that improves the patient experience at UF Health/Shands in terms of quality and equity. This program is best suited for students who have a fairly solid idea of their desired career path. The program requires an application to help match students with relevant faculty – please see the mentorship program website for more information.
