About Ivan Da Silva

My name is Ivan Da Silva, MD, PhD, and I am a neurointensivist at UF Health and a clinical associate professor at the University of Florida Department of Neurology in the Division of Neurocritical Care.

Prior to coming to UF, I practiced at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where I held the positions of assistant program director of the neurology residency program and director of the neurology residency research program.

I was born and raised in Brazil where I attended medical school and residency in internal medicine at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, as well as neurology residency at Universidade Federal Fluminense, both in Brazil . Following residency, I did a fellowship in medical critical care. I also completed my PhD in neurosciences with a focus on epidemiology and statistics at the Universidade Federal Fluminense. In addition to my training in Brazil, I completed an additional internship in neurology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and a neurocritical care fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.

Notably, I was one of the first physicians to describe the neurological complications of the Zika virus infection in adults. I also was honored to work as a physician at the Olympic and Paralympic 2016 Games, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I have a keen interest in several research areas, including prediction models, causal inference, neuroinfections and critical care ultrasonography. As a neurocritical care physician my goal is to provide compassionate and evidence-based care, as well as to practice research that can advance care of patients with brain injuries. In my free time I enjoy being with my three daughters, play soccer and collect vintage videogames.
