About Filipe Sarmento
Filipe Sarmento is a movement disorders neurologist from Brazil and joined us as a Research Scholar working with Dr. de Hemptinne and Dr. Wong. He is originally from Vitória-ES, but lived in São Paulo for his continued medical training after graduating from medical school up until coming to Gainesville. He completed his neurology residency and movement disorders fellowship at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP-EPM). Filipe’s interest in neurology grew since his first years of university and were reaffirmed as time went by. During medical school he pursued different experiences on the neurology field both locally and abroad, while studying at Semmelweis University in Budapest and doing an elective placement in the neurology department at the King’s College Hospital in London. His main fields of interest includes the study of motor and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease, Deep Brain Stimulation management, Essential Tremor and Dystonia. His current research aims at exploring and understanding the clinical correlates of Local Field Potential in movement disorders. In his leisure time, Filipe enjoys traveling, cycling, snowboarding, and having good quality time with friends and family.
